If you haven’t heard about the Cubs, you must be living under a very large rock with no internet connection. Yes the 2016 Cubs had a regular season record of 103 wins and only 64 losses, good for the best record in the league by over 8 games. They led the league or were in the top 3 in runs, triples, rbi’s, batting average, on-base percentage, walks, and hit-by-pitches. That’s just at the plate. When it comes to pitching, the Cubbies were top 3 in Wins, E.R.A, shutouts, quality starts, strikeouts, WHIP, balks, walks, and opponent batting average. Needless to say, the Chicago Cubs man-handled Major League Baseball this year. But as many of you know, it’s been a long time since anyone has been able to say that. a very long time. The Chicago Cubs are in the World Series this year. That is the first time that particular sentence has been read, said, typed or heard since 1945. That’s right. The Cubs are in the World Series for the first time in 71 years. Even worse, they didn’t win the ’45 World Series. No. The last time the Chicago Cubs appeared in the World Series and won was 1908. A whopping 108 years ago. Since they beat the Detroit Tigers 4 games to one, the Cubs have appeared in 7 World Series in 37 years and didn’t win a single one. With a World Series record of 8-28 in that time span. Since then, 71 years have passed. Here is a small list of interesting facts that really put that in perspective.
The Last Time The Chicago Cubs Were In The World Series…
- World War 2 had been over for 1 month
- There were only 16 teams in Major League Baseball
- A gallon of gas costed $0.15
- Franklin Delano Roosevelt was President (1945 is the year he died, unfortunately)
- The first microwave was invented
- Bob Marley was born
The Last Time The Chicago Cubs Won The World Series…
- The ball was dropped at New Years for the first time ever
- Oklahoma became a state
- Take me out to the ball game was written
- The Austro-Hungarian Empire was still around
- The First Model-T was released
- Women could not vote
So, Cubs fans, you’ve finally made it. After 71 bitter years, you look to break the curse and restore glory to your franchise. Can you do it? Experts are picking the Cubbies to win. Finally. I however, am not ready for it just yet. I think the Cleveland Indians win the World Series in 6 games. What do you think?
Leave your predictions including who wins and in how many games and if you’re right, I’ll like all your posts and give you a shoutout in my next post. Game 3 is Friday night at Wrigley and the series is tied 1-1. See you later, go Indians.
Edit: HindSight is 20/20. Indians Blew a 2 game lead, and the Cubs won the World Series in 7 games. With Game 7 going into extra innings. Darn. So I was wrong, but good for Chicago. The Cubs experience their first Title in over a century. Welcome back.
